Making the hallway cabinet

I despise dead space, need something to cover up the breaker/patch panel, access for the shower valve, and main water shut off valves for the upstairs.  So I'm making a floor to ceiling cabinet thing in there.

These pieces are really long and a pain to work with.

Making sure it fits.  I had to plane off the one side to get it to line up right.

Now I have to make the box part that goes behind it.  That line boring machine is pretty awesome.

Since I want to have access to the shower valve, the backs can't be solid, so they're panels that are removable.

Wonderful planning strikes again, I had to move the breaker panel back (twice actually), and change how the shower valve and head was mounted because the wood was taking up too much space.

Fitting the medicine cabinet

Since I'm recessing the cabinet I have to cut out some of the studs and make a window opening.

I guess I could have gotten away with only cutting one of them, this is a little off center though.

That looks pretty cool.  I also moved the outlets over to the side, and put on under the vanity since I think I'll be putting an outlet into 1 or 2 of the drawers.

Lots of holes to line up on the drywall, and because of the PEX holders I can't just use a normal hole.  I ended up having to recut this piece twice because I kept messing up the measurements.

Well I think this came out really nice.  I should also add, I bought the mirror before making the medicine cabinet and made it to fit, but I'm not installing it until after I finish it.

Toilet cabinet

The cabinet for over the toilet is interesting because of the angle on the ceiling.  It took me a lot of time to figure out the cuts and get everything to fit together right.

This is will get recessed into the wall like the medicine cabinet since I hate having it too close to my head on the toilet, as well as having cabinets that are too shallow.  No doors will be going on this one.

And naturally I forgot I ran wires back there... So I have to figure out how to move them out of the way.

That should work.

I guess I didn't take any pictures of the test fit, but I will after it's installed.

Remaking the vanity...

Well time to remake it.  It's basically the same as last time, but shorter.

Well, I really didn't think through that wall outlet placement, so I guess I need to move them.  Not only are they mounted on the studs so they aren't symmetrical, but they're also in the way.

Bathroom medicine cabinet and vanity

I got the house all refinanced, and the appraisers didn't even come inside, so I guess all the drywalling was a waste (I also installed all the outlets along with their covers, not pictures of that though).  At least it was motivating since it really changed the feel upstairs, it actually feels like a normal house now.

Now that all of that is done, it's time to start working on the cabinetry for upstairs.  I'm starting with the vanity and then medicine cabinet.  Originally my neighbor was going to help me with all of this since he used to make all of this stuff for his business, but since covid got him I'm on my own.  Luckily, his wife is ok with me using all the tools.  This is the drawing I made to go by, each square is 1".

It all fits together pretty well for the first thing I've made.

And time for glue and clamps.

I decided to start on the medicine cabinet next.  The shaper was nice for doing the profile.

It's pretty cool how well the peices from the mirror bits from the shaper fit together.

And making the box, the line boring machine is super convenient, along with the dovetailing machine after I got it tuned in.

I decided I want to put an outlet in the medicine cabinet for charging my toothbrush, so I picked up an oak outlet cover and cut off the sides.  This was my routing test.

And now for fitting and gluing it all together.

I'll be recessing it in the wall so the box sticking out isn't an issue.

Doing all this creates so much sawdust.

I guess I didn't take any pictures of building the box part... And at some point when I was making the front, I decided to make it taller since I thought the height measurement seemed way too low.  Well after I put it in the bathroom it is way too tall.  I wouldn't mind it, but I feel like whomever buys the house wouldn't be a fan, so I guess I have to make another one.

Bathroom drywall and tub

Lots of holes in the drywall behind the vanity...

Tub is installed along with all the plumbing for it, and no leaks.

Look at that, already removing some of that drywall I installed... The tub spout is done with galvanized pipe instead of PEX because it has to be rigid, and also the diameter reduction for PEX-B fittings can cause issues.

I cut up all the scrap drywall that was too small to be usable in the future so I could easily get rid of it.  It seems kind of wasteful, but doing all of the joints to be able to use all of it just isn't worth it.

Drywall in the last bedroom and closet lights

Drywall in the last bedroom.  Basically all of it on the wall with the window and door is going to be pulled off again because that wall is going to change a lot with the new door and window.

I also had to change the way I'm lighting the closets because of fixture distance requirements with shelving in the NEC.  I'm guessing this is a holdover from the old incandescent fixtures that actually got hot, but it's still in there so I had to change it.

Now I got the last piece of drywall up in that closet though which is nice.  I also installed these same kind of lights in the other two closets but I guess I forgot to take pictures.
