Because of the extent of the remodel, I have to follow modern building code with a hard-wired smoke detector in each bedroom and one in the hallway. I decided to color the wiring red with a Magnum Sharpie so it would be easily identifiable in the future.
This room was definitely easier than the first, which was nice.
I decided to start with the hardest part of the ceiling drywall. I had to trim the sprayfoam first, I found that my oscillating multitool worked best, but man was it dusty. By far the worst dust I've dealt with so far since it is so light it stays in the air and is very irritating to eyes.
My friend with a farm moved his tractor here for the winter so it'd be easier to work on and for me to weld together a loader attachment for it. So that was cool having in the backyard for awhile.
He also got a skid steer which is a ton of fun. It's definitely bigger than optimal for re-grading my yard in the future, but it'll work.
I got all the raw oak straight from a lumbermill to make all my floors and trim out of.
I decided to buy all the drywall for my upstairs at once and just store it in my garage. This is the first of the 2 loads.
So the city required me to get sprayfoam on the angled portion of the ceilings because it's technically considered an attic space, and that needs a very high R-value. The sprayfoam doesn't meet that with 2x4 rafters, but they said it's fine since it's the highest that's reasonable.
And of course that means I have to take down the drywall that I already put on the ceiling in here to have them spray it in... That included the ceiling as well because they needed to spray an extra 2' up to prevent ice-dams on the roof in the winter since at the point where the flat and angled ceiling meet, the cellulose wouldn't provide a very high R-value. I don't have any pictures of this because it was annoying to have to remove the stuff I put up a year earlier with my Dad. Funny enough he helped me deal with all the cellulose as well.
Overall the process was pretty cool. They used the low pressure sprayfoam instead of the high pressure since it wasn't that big of a job and it meant I didn't have to leave my house for 24-48 hours while it offgassed. Still cost me $3k though...
I actually took good pictures of this room the first time since I didn't want to move the insulation again. Unfortunately, I didn't re-take them after I ran the low voltage stuff... This room had the same thing going on with the extra large single gang box because the wiring split.
