Removing more paneling

Finished up removing the wood paneling and ceiling tile from the weird bedroom

Apparently ice cream trucks are still a thing here?

Started on the upstairs

I removed all that wood paneling and ceiling tiles, then started on scraping off the plaster since it was pretty damaged

Creepy hallway, it seemed worse in person because of how sloped the floor was

And I pulled some wood paneling off in the other bedroom, and found some stickers

More wood floor removal

More on removing the floor in the front room.  Found this, someone broke off their screwdriver in the wood.

Finished up the garage

Finished up organizing the garage, the traffic light is from the Wabash & Indiana 46 intersection.  When they were replacing them after class one day I stopped and bought one for $30 from the crew.  Best $30 ever.  The bulbs are 7W LEDs that run on standard 120V, so I wired it up with some switches.

My car and truck even fit at the same time, so that'll be nice for the winter

And there's even enough space in front of the truck to work on it with the door shut

Taking that old carpet to the dump

After putting off taking that carpeting to the dump, I decided to load it up Friday night to take it Saturday morning (the dump is only open until 3:30pm during the week and Saturday mornings for the weekends).  The tarp is a some house wrap that was left in the garage.  Since it rained a few times all the carpet was wet, and if you stood next to the truck and inhaled deeply you could feel that ammonia burn from all the pet urine in addition to smelling it.

Some garage stuff

Decided to reassemble the shelves I made for my garage at my college apartment

Used some of the extra wood I had from moving to suspend some of the shelves from where the workbench will be

Had to modify the corners of the shelves by the door

Used the piece of plywood that used to be my desk chair platform as the workbench

Added some good LED shop lights

Put them on two sections since there's no point in having the ones in the front on during the day with the door open

And 2 for the workbench

This is how much all of the lights pull when they're on.  It's bright enough that it's useful to have them on during the day with the door open.

Quad gang switches are cool

Pulling up old wood floor

I started pulling up the wood floor in the front room.  It seems to be the same as in the dining room, but with some tar paper stuff on it.  That same old finish floor is underneath it as in the sinkroom.

Found an old outlet box in the floor

That was enough floor pulling for the day, getting this stuff up is a lot harder than I thought

Removing more carpet

Removing the disgusting carpet from the stairs, turns out there's actually a finished and worn out floor underneath it.

Apparently a dog liked to pee here, the wood seems to be permanently damp in the corner.  I wasn't wearing my gloves when I was pulling the carpet, then grabbed it here to rip it up, immediately regretted my decisions for the day, went and scrubbed my hands, and put my gloves on.

Here's a look at the carpet tack strip from that spot

And a badly lit picture after removing all the staples and stuff

Yeah that carpet is pretty awful

Pulled the carpet from the front room too, and put it straight out the window.

Pile of all the carpet that used to be in the house

Temporary floor for the master bedroom

I decided to put some temporary flooring in the master bedroom since OSB isn't a very nice bedroom floor.  I had most of it from my last apartment, and picked up a few more cartons from Lowe's.

Well these floors are really bad

This is in the sink room of the first floor bathroom (after the carpet was removed), the floors in this house definitely need to be leveled...

Here's a look at the floor without the carpeting, from everything I can tell, it's the original finish floor of the house (from ~1890).  It's held in with square nails.

Post-Closing Walkthrough

This was a very fast (and badly recorded) video I took right after the closing on the house.  There's clearly a ton of work to do.  I left all the windows open when I drove back to Terre Haute that night so the house could air out since it smelled.

The stove has a gas line too it, so that's cool:

And some interesting outlets, I found out later these style were still powered by tube & knob wiring:

Rubber roofing

Finally time to actually start on the rubber roof.  That plastic I put down held up surprisingly well for how long it was there. Had to put ...
